Children at Redeemer
At Redeemer, children are an important part of the worshiping and learning community. Children are encouraged to participate in worship. There is a special time for The Child In All Of Us during the service. Children are invited forward and adults are encouraged to accompany children who may be cautious.
A well-staffed Nursery is available from 9:30 AM until 12:00PM for children under 3 years old. An Usher can help you find your way to the Nursery. In the Nursery are toys, a rocking chair, a changing table (also in all of our restrooms) and a toddler-sized toilet for those working on potty training. If you’d prefer to sit by the fireplace or let your toddler explore the Great Hall, the worship service is broadcast there as well.
Children and Communion
Christ’s table is open to all people. Children are welcome to participate in communion as soon as parents feel they are ready. We celebrate Communion on the 1st Sunday of the month. 3 year olds through 3rd graders go directly to their class instead of into worship. Their teachers will bring them back into worship before communion so they can be with their families.
Families and Homes Matter
While relationships provide the traction for faith to stick, there are several additional factors involved in the faith-forming process:
Some things you probably already know:
- Parents are the primary educators in the faith.
- Home / family has the most influence on whether and how faith is transmitted from one generation to the next.
- Any Sunday School teacher or child catechist knows which of their students experience faith reinforcement at home, and those who don’t.
Faith is transmitted from one generation to the next, in significant ways, by the family’s faith and religious practice.
We explore these factors in detail at this link to Vibrant Faith. Click here to check it out!
